Hi Alifish
welcome to this amazing online resource. Its a great pastime into the outdoors.

Best advice is learn to get back on the kayak from capsize and take your time to build confidence. Check the weather forecast before heading out.
Good safety equipment should always be high on the priority list.

There is a wealth of knowledge on this forum that spans well over a decade, do some searches and most topics will be available including any questions.
Enjoy

My initial advice is be wary of Whangarei Harbour. There are strong currents and it chops up badly with wind against tide. Also, not too many fish in the harbour over winter.

Welcome aboard...... over the years I’ve done a lot of yak fishing out of Waipu and into Bream Bay with some great fish caught....unfortunately I haven’t fished there for a couple of years not...
Winter isn’t a great time but it does pick up from around Labour Weekend especially before the long liners come in and hit the bay

Good luck with your recovery. I had shoulder surgery last April, no paddling for me for some time yet.
