Heading out to give fishing a go out of Leigh this morning. Wasn't gonna spend too long on the water as it was a little windy though the chop was pretty mild. Anyway headed out round the point a little north. Tried a little fast jigging (with slow jog setup), fish were responding on the sounder but no takes. Resorted back to soft baiting although the wind made it hard to keep in touch with the line. Not long after the cast I felt a little weight (first thinking it was just the wind on my rod), but wound and heaved and what initially felt like a snag turned into a screaming reel. I thought I had an average sized Kingy, but as it came up I realised it was a snapper and it was big (bent the jig head pretty good). A great fight on 10lb braid, caught with a pepper prawn grub. WHAT DO YOU THINK, SURELY IT'S CLOSE TO 20lb

Caught 3 more decent fish after that then headed home to call it a morning.

Could be nudging 20. My big ones have had the tail wrist too big to close my fingers around. Good indicator. Sometimes long but slender doesn't weigh as much as you'd expect
All depends on the condition. Bloody good fish

That's a great fish! Getting itchy with this great weather but no plans/permission to go out till 21st unfortunately... hopefully i'll have a little fun down in Napier next week, landbased in the port with a kahawai!

Beauty fish mate. Hard to tell from the pics but my guess is that its not quiet 20lb...tail looks a bit thin and it doesn't like quiet bulky enough....may be wrong though.
