First report new to kfnz. Launched waiti bay and headed near orere midday which wasn't ideal as it was scorching hot. Soft baiting 45cm snap and a few around legal released in first half hour before fishing slowed. For the next two hours heaps of funny bites and slow pulls on the rod but would drop after a couple of winds and then attack sb again, it took a while but finally realised they were definitely squid so I will buy a jig for next time just in case. Got a nice fat 43cm Gurnard which is the biggest I have caught in auckland and one more snap for the bin. The water glassed off and could see schools of small anchovies skittering with the odd swirl around them. Will make sure I am out sunrise next time

Yeah, I was just around the corner in Kawakawa bay and it sure was hot out there!! And I also saw the really small fish jumping all over the place.

That's a decent sized carrot there!

How did you get on? I didn't see any kahawai so maybe there was some kings chasing the bait around, I'll take a popper if I get there in the weekend and try my luck 1st thing in the morning

Well, I was on a boat with my son, not a kayak. He got 6 snapper and I got 5.
We did troll a softbait behind the boat on the way back and had something on for a brief moment, but it was gone by the time I'd killed the motor and picked up the rod.
