My first fishing trip of the year. Also my first time in Narrow Neck. No big snapper to report. The snapper I caught were too small and all released. There were some large schools of Kahawai near the shipping lanes. I happily landed 5 fat KY with my trolling lure.

I need eyes at the back of my head as there's a lot of boat traffic to look out for. The current was quick. I drifted to the Cheltenham beach area a few times which was a pain. The cable connected to my toe pedal snapped and that made paddling home a real slog.

I can see myself coming here more often as it's a shorter and easier drive from Rewa to NN than it is to the Firth. Launching off the ramp is so much easier too.

Raw fish and smoked fish for dinner. :)

Nice haul. Haven't caught a KY for ages.
Try the orange slider, they usually produce a few snapper.
If you're really unlucky you may see me, Doc, Barry and Mitch next time. :D

NN is my normal launching spot. Always get a decent feed from there, but it has been a while since I caught kahawai. Love the banter on here too from our other kayakers. I should add that last time I did catch a kahawai a school happened to drift past as I was setting up, quickly flicked my softie out, hooked 1 and gave it to a passerby... thinking it can only get better. WRONG...caught a million small snapper keeping 2 just over legal. ha ha :D :D :D :D
