I also use quite long leaders (a few rod lengths)
curious, why ?

my traces are around 1.2m if that, more manageable

Not traces leaders... to clarify what I mean: -

- Braid joins to leader
- Leader terminates on Fastach clip
- Trace (if any) attaches to Fastach

I use an FG knot to join the braid to the leader, so the leader can be wound onto the reel. Because the leader can be wound on pretty much any length that fits onto the reel is manageable length. So I use 15 - 20 feet of leader. This has two advantages: -

1) If I get a nick in the leader, I can trim off a couple of feet and still have plenty left;
2) Leader is less visible than braid. The longer my leader, the less chance the fish will see the braid.

When my leader gets down to about 10 feet, I replace it.

Testing is still ongoing and my experiences are nowhere near as much as many of you, but I haven't found much difference between braid/mono/fluro in either strike rates of fish or line breakages around structure when fishing from a kayak. I'm surprised. Maybe in Winter they'll be more cautious. Have been busted off in structure with all line types, and if anything I feel braid might cut through weed a bit better.

I understand mono/fluro should hold up against rocks better than braid but I have been busted off and not busted off on rocks with or without nylon. But like I say, testing is ongoing. Until I start losing more fish or you guys have seen significant differences yourselves, I'll keep using just the braid mainline with no trace/leader.

Maybe with more hard-body jigging mono takes the potential hook knocks better, but I haven't done enough to know either way.

How’s your casting distance? I find if the leader is too long it really affects distance.

I haven't noticed any effect.
