What a weekend, arrived at Papa Aroha around 10:30am after dropping wife and daughter at domestic terminal ( Long weekend in Wello).
Caught up with Mr Day from Matamata then setup camp and got rods sorted.(no breakages)Time to wait for Barry and Sam.
Had a good safety brief from Rob and finally the boys turned up, setting up tents in the dark with strong winds ( great).
Up at 0400 and due to winds decided on uncharted ground on the East coast around Kennedy bay.
Slow going to start then whack, reel going nuts and after 10minutes up pops 82cm snap. Due to rules I got Sam to come over to take photo and tried to release the brute, unfortunately he just swam around on one side and the decision was mate.
We carried on as the going was slow, I headed to the mussel farm for a look which was good timing as they were working. 4 smaller ones on board, Barry and Sam got 1 each, there's weigh in sort.
Headed back to beach as the wind was getting up and we were loaded up and heading back to camp around 12:30.
With all fish weighed in, time for catch up with others and a well deserved cold one.

What a great job Rob and Janet do each year for like minded people, arranging sponsors, sorting out the prize packs, organising the dinner, running the shop and so on. A very big Thank you.

Great fish. Well done. What did it weigh in the end? And what did you catch it on?

wow, great fish! well done!

It's amazing how much the weight can vary for different length fish.
