Hi guys.

I'm doing my annual trip up North to see the whanau. I'll be staying in Tikipunga. Hope the weather will be settled. Where are fishing biting? The last 2 trips to Matapouri have been fruitless but would be keen to check elsewhere.

Any tips anyone?

Cheers.

I'm finding fish in deep water, 40 metres plus. Can't say there aren't fish in shallower, just telling you what I know. For a kayaker, Tutukaka is easy access to deep water, but you might have to search around a bit for the fish. If you don't find them, there is always the wash. Others do well wash fishing, I don't :$

I've been adequately fed by smaller schools in 15-20m depth around the shallow foul - patchy schools, but fruitful if you find them.

Mean. Just my luck that the forecast is turning to crap this weekend. Perhaps I'll have to fish off the rocks.

I was out diving today. Pretty big swell :puke: and it's getting worse.

We had a club trip to the entrance of Whangaruru harbour. The fishing was slow but a few caught, mainly in close. The conditions were interesting at
times

I wasn't too keen to get out as the swell and wind wasn't good. But took my daughter out for a fish in the tutukaka wharf and she caught her first fish.

I used my daughter's rod afterwards and caught something big but the line snapped :swear:
