Last time I went fishing was 15th of December, can't believe it... There was a time when I used to go fishing twice per week with only Destin and a few others fishing more often than me. What happened this year? Divorce (separation) and being sick.

Anyway, I took the day off and this morning I finally got the kayak back in the water and WHAT A DAY! When I drove into Waitawa Park there were those windy ripples on the water that normally indicates that it's going to be freakin cold out there, but the day turned out quite the opposite. No wind, no waves and a nice bit of sun keeping me warm. "New" pair of booties (more than a year old, but only worn once before) and turns out these things keep the water out for long enough to get onto the kayak without them getting soaked with ice water. Pleasant surprise!

Anyway, launched at a casual 7:30 and back on the beach by 11:00 with 7 snapper ranging from 34cm to 47cm. On the way back there were a LOT of birds flying over the Clevedon flats and I followed them a bit hoping to add some kahawai to the mix, but nothing panned out - the birds just flew off towards Maraetai.

are you sure it was you out there? you always seemed to have a great drama to include in your TR's which were always entertaining and refreshingly honest...

I know, right! Getting sick has made me a wimp. Turns out I'm not bulletproof after all, so not taking so many risks anymore.

Thanks peeps, now I'm keen to get out more often.

If those fish look a little pale, it's only because they've been scaled. I like fillets with the skin on.
