Thursday I was meant to go out with my son, but we had cancelled the day before due to the forecast. But the morning looked good and I was keen on some alone time, so I headed out to Orere Point on my own... Karma was going to make sure I regretted that decision as my son had been looking forward to a fishing trip for some time now!
It didn't take long and I had something on the line right off the beach, but not swimming like anything I'd felt on the kayak before. One minute it's behind the kayak, then to the left, then to the right and then coming in peacefully until I got it close to the kayak, then off again.
Finally saw a brownish body which I didn't recognize until I got this little guy onboard.
And that, ladies and G's, is when Karma started whispering in my ear and told me that I can get the jighead out of this little guy's mouth without hurting it. Not visible in the pic, but at that stage I'd cut the line, but the jighead was still in it's mouth on the left side. More lies from Karma told me that I can securely hold this cute little boy under my arm while I remove the hook... Well, I could not!!
One twist of that little POS's head and it sunk it's teeth straight into my side.
Appreciated having the 2HP outboard on my kayak to get me back to land as quickly as possible and off to hospital. Happy to have a few fat rolls protecting any important organs, but I must admit, I was not prepared for the size hole that was left in my side after the doctors finished with me.
Oh well, guess I have shark attack ticked off now, so statistically I should be good to go on the kayak for the next 40 years.
No good Deed

To add to your regrets and self-recrimination - that's an edible species.

Hmm, probably should have researched the photo that I got from Google to get a more dangerous species

It's just a joke, the pic of the shark is from Google, but the pic of the hole in my side is real. Just not a shark bite... It was a small cyst that's been there for years, that got infected and the doctors had to take that large a chunk out of me to get rid of all the infection.
Now be honest, who believed my story until you got this far?

Yep, I thought we were back to classic FOM. I needed a laugh with this shitty weather.

LOL, it was quite believable, wasn't it? Some half-truths in everything... I was meant to go fishing with my son and had considered going on my own. And I have caught a shark before, just not from the kayak, so tried to describe it's swimming patterns etc. etc.AndrewRawlingson wrote: ↑Wed Sep 19, 2018 3:18 pm Yep, I thought we were back to classic FOM. And I do miss not having actual FOM stories to tell anymore, so thought I'd make one up
