Hi 4wdn

I have fished on taupo and in the sea with a cheap softbaiting boat rod and reel set. Short rods seem best for Kayaking, and if you ask me cheap stuff is best to have on the yak cause it's very easy to lose stuff, and it hurts less if it was the cheapest rod and reel combo in the shop!

If you're planning to harl on the lake, a fairly light rod will be best - I think the softbaiting ones are pretty bendy so did the trick for me!

Hi Ya - welcome aboard -
Im a Taupo local and Harl onthe lake all the time -If your planning on harling just use anything light and not to long is good or you can use a flyfishing rod and use 1 -2 colours of leadline and heaps of backing with about 15+ metres of fluro leader. - Even a rod used for softbaiting will do the trick. Softbait rods will do and same for jigging.
Hope to see ya out there - When this bloomim wind goes away !!!
