How's it everyone, very new to Kayak fishing as in have only just got a kayak. Am an avid surfcaster and only recently made the change!

From Rotorua so will most likely be fishing EBOP area.

I have just purchased a Viking Pro 400 stock standard. Any tips on decking out the yak for a newbie would be much appreciated, gear etc as I literally have nothing yet.

Have looked at doing the yak fishing course with Tim from Papamoa, any recommendations on that?

Cheers guys,
Scottie

As tempting as it is, don’t drill any new holes just jet. Wait until you are sure of what you want. Shouldn’t need to drill too many on a Viking anyway.

Oh believe me I wont be doing that until I know what I'm doing haha. I guess what I'm asking is what a necessities, i.e. fish finder, gloves, types of rods/reels etc.

Cheers though.

I found that this Forum, was very good in terms of sensible advice.

I also watched the youtubery extravaganza and ended up equipping my kayak with way too much gear.

Having said that, the following image is a sort of list of things to consider.
