I've not had the opportunity to fish much, in the last long while, apart from a brief few hours in the Tongariro, back in August.

I did get a couple of pan sized snapper, two weeks ago off Birkenhead, so today was the first serious expedition for a while.

Many many many 15cm baby snapper. And one 44 cm snapper for dinner.

You know, there comes a time, when you're hauling up the anchor and it's stuck on something, when the force you are exerting on the anchor warp is going to be greater than the force of the buoyancy of the Kayak, so I cut the rope. Shame that the weak link I'd engineered, to snap, in just such a predicament, was too strong.

Any way good snapper for dinner :)

try this extra step next time

iki your snapper like you do, then between the gill flaps, sever the main artery that sits along the backbone to bleed it, rinse it over the side to clean it..... a 30sec job
the flesh becomes more whiter, the fish tastes tons better & keeps longer than what you maybe used to
