I got on the water at first light. A nice 45 minute paddle at 6kph to Rangitoto. Hooked into fish immediately. The slow jig rod was getting more than its share of hits today as long as I kept the lure within 1 metre of the bottom. At one stage I had a huge fish on only to have it fall off half way to the surface after a very long fight. The slow jig did deliver the largest fish which was 54cm (2.6kg). I ended up only doing 3 drifts. Throw back about 4 that were under 40cm. Kept 5.

good fishing there mate
might have to try my luck from kohi, not sure where to go

the second to last photo, I see you use a "chill pack" of some sort. is it a frozen pack & does it last an entire fishing session ?

Re: chill packs.

I use empty drink bottles, I throw a handful of salt in them fill'em with water and then they can be frozen. The salt means that they take a long time to freeze, but also to defrost. I just put 'em in the freezer the day before I go out.

I use good old rubber hot water bottles... salt water in them and freeze them ...

Yes they are normal (albeit large) chilly bin cooling blocks. I use 4. From memory I got them at Mitre 10 or Bunnings.

And yes they easily last the whole day.
