Having a bit of time now soccer season has finished and after a hell 2 weeks of being oncall, I needed to destress a bit so hatched a plan to head out early.
Had been out a couple of times a few weeks ago and fishing was pretty good with bags of 5 each time 35-45 cm.
Paddled out at 6 am to a mixed bag of gentle rain and a light southerly which was turning into a south easterly about 10 knots. Couldnt see anyone else out, not even a boat.
Went to my usual area within sight of the wharf and came across a nice current. Anchored up, threw some cubes of pilchard and mackerel out and had 2 rods out.
The bites were coming thick and fast, with quite a few 30-35 being thrown back.
Kept a few 35-40 for the wife and four kids, when suddenly one of the rods just took off. I struggled to get the rod out of the holder and had a nice time playing this one for 10 minutes before landing a nice big fat 58 cm.
Had lost a few big ones this year so was stoked to get this one on.
Wind picked up so called it a day and back home by 9am. Got some nice fillets, steamed the heads and frames for heaps of flesh for the wifes world famous in Beachlands thai fish cakes recipe and the cats got their fair share. Great day all round.
