Was blessed to be able to head out for a fish this afternoon at my favourite little Bay Pukerua. Should really have been working but I'm the boss so what the hang! . Forecast was 8-9/10 and we were in May so I had high hopes of success. Previous May outings in years gone by have been fruitful. The Snapper generally head to warmer waters down here for 5-6months after May. The fish I have previously caught in May have been good sized Snapper not always the numbers.

Mike and I anchored up not far from a boat and a couple of kayakers as this was our spot X. Nah not really just a spot over sand in the general vicinity. wasn't too flash a start Conger, Conger, Carpet Shark, bust off by I think a larger shark...other kayaker pulled in half a kahawai courtesy of Mr Taxman- eeek! Mike was catching plenty of Ky but no target species so decided to pull anchor and head further North. We must have only moved about 200m or so and tried our luck there.

With fading light and a glorious sunset we were treated to some great action with a consisistent bite time for the next hour. First Snapper was quite small that I thought I better measure it! No prob at 36cm. The rest more solid and in the 50s and biggest 62cm I got 5 and Mike got 3 Snapper and we were very happy with that and decided to call it a night although they were still on the bite... Nice, good to see snaps still hanging around.

All I seem to attract at the moment is barracoutas and kahawai.
