Managed to get out off Kaiiwi beach in Wanganui on Sunday the 4th of March, Got the Viking out onto the water around 7:30am, Sea was as flat as a pancake :D , paddled 1.8kms out to around the 12m mark. Kahawai everywhere you looked. First drop of the ledger rig produced a good size kahawai and then another took them both home for the smoker. Caught plenty more kahawai but released them to fight another day. Then after that the snapper came on the bite. I had my limit within around 1.5 hours most of them were good size pannies, good eating size fish, only managed to get the one rod in the water as the fishing was so good. Met up with another keen yak fisho Grant out on the water, he also had his limit within 1.5 hours he had managed a few bigger snaps prolly around the 10lb-15lb mark. I would have liked a few gurnard but hard to complain with fishing this good. Family and friends ate like kings Sunday evening. Can't wait to get back out there :y:

Here is a couple photos, need to learn to take the time to take photo's whilst on the water, seem to get too carried away with the fishing. Also need to invest in a go pro or something more water proof than my mobile phone.

Silentnght07, When the sea is flat there is some good fishing to be had off Wanganui, very underrated, Waitotara and Kaiiwi beaches seem to produce fish more often then not. Heard very good things about Whangaehu to the south, Its just a matter of waiting for the right conditions.

Winter time in my experience can be a pain, with red cod and spiny dogfish in close like the plague.

If you do move to Wangas or your planning on heading here for a fish let me know ill be keen as on a yak mission.
