Shot over to Kapiti Island on Thursday afternoon for a bit of jigging. Took about 45 minutes to get across the ditch and once there I was greeted by flurry of Kahawai workups. My plan of attack was to jig for Kingies but I couldn't help myself and got stuck into a couple of horse Kahawai. After landing one, I opened it up to see what they were feeding on and I was surprised to find it absolutely full of krill like crustaceans - should have taken some pictures :^)

Once it was clear there was no Kingies harassing the KY, I went off to my jigging spot and began my drift. It wasn't long until I hooked into something semi solid but the weight came off about 5m from the yak, so I quickly dropped and began jigging again only to have the braid snipped by something with sharp teeth once I loaded up again ;( . And this would be my story of the afternoon, donating a number of jigs to the ocean  . Nevertheless, I did manage to get one legal rat (released), and few fat blue cod to salvage the trip ;)

Kapiti Island is a pretty good fishing ground and well worth the trip  . Due to the current that pumps through the channel, I recommend studying the tides and doing it with someone else as it can get pretty narly out there very very quickly :!:
