An oddly still day and an early get away from work meant a few hours free to go for a fish. Got to my spot off Himatangi around 3.15. Fishing was slow after 30 minutes the rod tip hadn't even budged another 30min went by and I had 1 carrot in the bin but bites were still few and far between. Eventually patience paid off and the carrots were coming thick and fast to the point that I was hoping for something to actually put up a fight. My cut off time came and as I was packing up the gear the rod bent over a fun little battle with a scrappy kahawai followed. Sadly it seems the snapper have left this part of the coast. But was a good trip in near perfect conditions.

Gurnard are the best eating fish if only they put up a decent fight once you get them off the bottom. What we need is a fish that fights but has the same flesh as a Gurnard. First world problems eh.
