I'm keen to know if anyone uses the front hatch and if so what for.

I'm thinking of a few day camp trip but not sure what I can get in there or what others use.

Any suggestions?

I put my battery in front hatch... Also use it for dry clothes (in winter on day trips) in a dry bag and handy for the gas cooker n coffee ;)

I find its the best place to keep a sponge.
I have one of those large carwash sponges there and use it to remove any water.
After a sortie I remove the hatch cover and lift the 400 from the rear handles, all the water runs to the bow and the sponge sucks it up,
After an outing in a big seas I may have to do this 2 or 3 time to remove all the pacific ocean I have collected.
Sleep in, eat a good breakfast, paddle out slow.
