For around Wellington, do you use soft plastics or lures much? Normally I use squid, pilchids, berley etc but thinking about using plastics. If you use plastics, what soft plastics do you have most success with?

I haven't used bait at all around Welly mate, but I do extensively use micro/small jigs. My main target species are Blue Cod, Snapper and Kingfish. Beta Bugs, Lil Squid Wings and Kabura's from Catch also work pretty well, however my current go to micro are these little fellas from GoFish:

I've caught everything from gurnard through to Kingies on these - lots of Kingies

As for softies, I haven't used them too much due to a lot of the areas I hit around Wellington and Kapiti are quite rocky and I find that they snag a fair bit when I get lazy and leave them out dragging across the bottom. Plus I find I have to use a heavier jig head compared to fishing up North due to the currents down here.
