One Wednesday night our kayak trailer complete with kayaks and gear was stolen from our house in Nelson. Thieves defeated 2 padlocks to steal it.

Kayaks were an orange Viking 2+1 and a black and yellow P400. I've lost the book with the serials numbers but notably, black and yellow is a custom colouring for a P400 so its very distinctive. Also has a starport fitted behind the seat, which is non-standard.

Also missing a tackle pod and a black and yellow chill pod.

The trailer (C996E) is a black luggage trailer that has been converted to kayak duty. Notably it has a freshwater washdown system so when that is removed there will be holes in the front and left side panels and the floor. Notably it has Rhino roof rack mounting channel on the roof and havy duty Rhino racks square in profile and about 1400mm wide.

They also took a distinctive DIY gaff made from a ~500mm length of red anodised alloy (from a berkley landing net)

Photos of yaks and trailer below.

The thieve(s) also broke into the house when someone was asleep inside. Disturbingly they did so with a person asleep in the house. Could have gotten really nasty.

Damn that pisses you off :@

If you bought the kayak direct from Viking they can probably help you out with a serial else have a quick look through your photos as you may have it captured in one of the shots or may be it's 53262?

I rang Viking. Due to some sort of data loss they only have serial numbers for sales in the last two years and mine is 4 years old.

I think you might be right on the serial # in the photo though. Well spotted.

If any of the Nelson guys have a photo of me on the water (from one of the group trips or whatever) I'd really appreciate a copy. There are some things I don't have proof of purchase for (like my PFD) that I could do with a photo of.

BTW a benefit of loyalty cards is they can provide proof of purchase. For example Burnsco printed everything I've bought back to 2010 and I was able to go through and highlight the items taken. Ditto Noel Leeming, Farmers, Kathmandu.

i would suspect that they took the trailer as a convienient way to get the house load of stuff away . they did the same thing when i got robbed many years ago. opened up my work van to load the house items in. lucky for me they were dumb f$%^s and used the key in the door and the alarm went off and my alert neighbor heard the alarm going and investigated and scared them off.

pretty sucky experience though hope it turns out well and you get your stuff back

That was my first thought but they only took little things from inside the house. It's more like they came then back with a car to take the kayak or tipped off an associate who did.

The only stuff I really care too much about is my partner's family heirloom jewellery. That can't be replaced.

According to the person I spoke to at Viking it's the only yellow and black P400.

It will be interesting to see what the insurance company offers ...

What insurance company can I ask? I use to be with State, who told me if my fishing gear got stolen they would pay out an amount of what they think it is worth at the time, whereas AA told me they would replace it with the exact same model, brand new, or unable to, the closest model match they can.
