I'm off to the States for a short holiday soon. I've been looking at perhaps buying a new reel while I'm over there. I like the look of the Penn Clash (in 3000 size) and I hear good things about them, but are there any others that might be worth a look at?

I found the traditional brick and mortar tackle shops were significantly more expensive than the online retailers.

With the exchange rate when I was over there (February/March) reels weren't a lot cheaper than here.

The exceptions seemed to be Bass-pro, Cabelas etc who are also big online retailers, but I was never near one.

I was over earlier in the year too and found I was no better off looking at reels then at home. Various bits of tackle etc were much lower price.... loaded up on game lures for this season.... (not from the yak :worried: )

I went with a Penn Clash 3000 (based on your review MM). I did look at a Shimano Stradic as well, but there wasn't much price difference.

I've ordered it on Amazon and will have it delivered to my hotel (I checked with them in advance).

Depending on the exchange rate it should be around $215 NZD ($149 USD), that seemed to compare favourably to prices for the same reel in NZ.

Yeah that would be about 150 cheaper I guess than local market pricing.
