Hi guys,

I have one of those crappy yellow Nylon drift chutes and always seem to be drifting much faster
then every other YAKKER i go out with so time for an upgrade. i am looking at the kayak drift chute
on trade me. My question is, is this to big?
Parachute: 1800mm wide x 1000mm deep (approx)

What ever info i can get would be much appreciated.

That drift chute is HUGE and way bigger than you need on the kayak..!

What size is the one you have now?

Most kayak chutes are around 780 to 900mm NOT 1800mm!

There is a good thread on the Tagit ones and sizing here > ... =7&t=21002" onclick=";return false;

An important consideration is whether it will open up.

Like a parachute, a drogue has to open to work properly. It opens because the kayak pulls it against the current

If it's too large and/or the fabric is too stiff, the kayak won't be able to provide enough pull to open it.

I tried a couple and personally settled on the Tagit drogue. It has worked for me on 3 kayaks. Escapade 3.3m, Espri and P400.

It even works on my 6m trailer boat.

I have had a few and while not definitive I have found that if it rolls up tight easily then it seems to unroll easily. A small float on the narrow end helps to open it up too and easier to collect back in.
At the moment I am using the Rob Fort one.

lol not that it is but that sounds like the response i used to give the parents of the basketball team i used to coach. got them all together at the begining of the season and told them.

I value all your suggestions and input but will most likely ignore it.
used in conjunction with.
you had the opportunity to step up as coach and you declined so you have no input into how i run the team.
