Just wondering if anyone had ventured out to either Pukerua Bay or Makara recently? Any success? Shouldn't be long for the Snapper to start showing up if not already? Hanging out for a fish it's been six months!!! Cheers, Julian

Saw u paddling round out there. I picked up some scrawny gurnard that I threw back. They were in really poor condition. Talked to the boats fishing out there and they had some nice snaps.

I joined up at the boat club in pram today and they were saying it was quiet. Too much current I reckon. A mate on a boat said they did well either side of the tide turn early this morning. You paddling glass?

No good Ambo.
Current was strong, but threw out the drogue and drifted all day. Small blue cod and wrasse. (becoming a habit for Puk Bay for me.)
Saw you out there H&G, didn't know then it was you. But at least now I know the spot. :y:
Im keen to get out the to Mana too, Bluies. Whats the current like out the back? Anyone done it from their yaks?

I normally fish 24m but that SW got sloppy so anchored in 18. Thought it might have been you, thought about swinging past but couldn't be buggered paddling back into the current. Hopefully getting the boat out this arvo for a run

Big currents out the back of mana. The whole coast really, no worries if no swell or wind. The bridge can cut up pretty nasty wind against tide. We normally go wide from Makara. Doesn't take long to be into 100m

Ive never been out there so unsure about currents. Will deff let you know what the currents like, we should be out there in the turn. If anyones got any advise on finding the puka it would be greatly appriaciated, the FF on the boat is pretty shithouse. Only aby good for depth

You'll struggle without a decent sounder TBH. Pretty much drifting blind. They will be off spawning this time of year, but you might find some pups. Fishing Vern's might be a better shot, blue cod, Terri's and snaps.

Cheers H&G. Yea i gathered we would be drifting blind. Will have a look for verns on the charts, how does Hunter Bank fish?
Also when do the Kingies turn up down there?
Sorry for all the questions, never been out of there before :D

Kings being caught already. Hunters fishes alright, good for pelagics and can be good bottom fishing on edge of the reef. Doesn't always fire though. Vern's is south of mana in 100m. There is a drop off that runs the length of the coast in 100-120m that drops to 200m. The Puka line up along it but can be localized.
