I'm a newbie and am setting up my Kayak. Keen to get out more but I'm really needing a wet suit/dry suit. Can anyone recommend a good place to buy from? I'm in Nelson. Cheers

I bought Long johns and a jacket from Wetties in AKL. I used to fish in a full wetsuit but easier to dress for the warm/cold conditions with pants and jacket. They are very helpful and if you are not sure of the size, they are happy to send you different ones to try on.

Just a heads up. Wetsuits aren’t great on a kayak. They’re designed to keep you warm under water, not above. Everyone’s needs are different when it comes to thermal protection. Most people seem to wear Sharkskin or similar, or dry pants/top with an insulating later underneath when it’s cold. Summer obviously needs less thought. I haven’t seen anyone wear a drysuit in NZ, but don’t think it would be over the top for the colder parts of the country.

Also be aware not all wetsuits are designed for paddling in. Can remove skin from armpits quite easily.

Pissing from a kayak has its challenges at times. A wetsuit becomes another challenging step between you and sweet relief.

Full merino longjohns, merino ice breaker jersey, dry pants n splash proof top, socks n dive boots n a beany today. Bit hot after 40mins paddling but once out on the drift was cool/comfortable. Think long term investment :x
