Folks, for the next 4 months or so of summer, I propose to hold Saturday morning 9am sessions at Waiake Beach, Torbay, aimed at some basic skills. Usually around mid month. Duration of 60-90 minutes or so. What will be covered is, fixed and drift anchor systems, basic kayak rig and gear requirements. A short demonstaration of soft bait technique, rods, reels, knots, terminal gear and baits for soft baiting. Then a short paddle to say the green marker and back, then in chest deep water - practise re-entry, then in water where feet cannot touch the ground more of the same. Get to know your yak, eg: how far over can I lean, how far forward and backward can I manouver before tipping etc. First session will be Saturday 15 December (pending my calllout requirements). I will post an update every Friday morning here and on facebook to confirm. NSKFC and the wider kayak fishing community are all welcome, and yes you too even though you may not be a newby!

I should be shot for not practicing

Folks

I suggest you all do some home work and search for "sit on top kayak re-entry" in Utube. Lots of good and some amusing videos on this topic are available.

The news I've been dreading has just arrived. I have just now completed a cutover part one and the second phase is scheduled for Saturday morning. I will not be available fo the kayaking. However I am available next Saturday 23rd and will keep the morning open in case anyone is still keen. You could and perhaps should go to the beach this weekend anyway and practise in the shallows, the weather looks to be great so use it. This time of the year sucks in my business and I pity the poor callout tech who takes over from me for next week!!
I'm really sorry folks. :(

I am available the next two weekends but Owing to an Ulna nerve compression have had to put my SUP racing ambitions and paddling in general on hold till about mid Feb, hope to be back in the saddle then. Back to the crosstrainer! :(
