It was a good turn out on sunday with 3 other kayakers fishing on a fairly warm winters day out from the port. Rex who i haven't seen in a while was giving it a crack near the breakwater and a couple others were giving it a go. There was quite a bit of swell (1.3m) so it was up and down on the water. a bit of westerly on the top at first but i waited before heading out further to some of my reef spots. On the way out a big pod of dolphins came through which is getting more and more common for me. once the wind dropped and came up to the slightest of easterlies i was good to get to my spot and i anchored up. No berley small hooks small baits. Eventually the fishing came together. I landed a lot of good size Kahawai on 4kg line, a bunch of 40cm Mackerel and some 30cm Blue cod which were released. A bunch of other small reef species were released too. I much prefer that to unhooking the dreaded demonic  spinies. Eventually one of my targets took the bait and a Tarakihi popped up after giving me a little scrap on 4kg line. Over the moon with that. headed in at 12.30 more than happy.
