Have to say this Winter / Spring has been my best one of my kayak fishing career. so many good species caught, and many released. Seen a few of you out there but would love to see more ! The warm water is here because of this stinking hot weather it's kicked the fish right into gear. Dust those yaks off people

nice pics there Blair. I recognise the coastline behind you in one pic ,but I can't work out what that fish is in your last pic ,. Is it a banded wrasse, or something like that?, I presume you fish over structure ,where you are ,or maybe out onto the sand flats a bit . How deep?, and do you lose much gear ?

No doubt you're an accomplished kayak fisho now :y:

Also wondering the identification of stripy fish?

That would be a red banded perch. Took me a bit of searching to find out what it was. Part of the grouper family.
I'm getting there andrew, ticked off the big snap like you said after the kingfish.
Going for Blue Moki, Skipjack Tuna , Albacore Tuna and Hapuka next

"Also wondering the identification of stripy fish?"

As AndrewRawlingson says banded sea perch, or red perch, quite tasty if big enough, spiky.

I caught one once that was no word of a lie, 2 cm long, point of the hook got him through the upper lip, I seriously considered, firing up a saltwater aquarium for him.
