requirements 5, 6, 7 and 8 are going to be hard to meet. With a sub $500 budget there is only 1 on the market with a GPS, the CUDA 350. Also the Rechargeable battery pack is only a common feature on the Sub $200 fish-finders which are really sub standard in terms of fish finding capability. Water temp at different depths is only possible by \ seeing thermoclines and I would expect you need a good quality Colour unit for that.

The 8 is a must, but 5, 6 & 7 would be bonuses.

i've got the cuda 300 and find it does it's job ok for what it's worth shows bottom structure well,depth reading but don't believe there is always fish down there when is shows fish :lol:....i'm gonna upgrade to a better unit when i get my new yak :y:..

I reckon 99% of the time there is nothing showing my sounder when I have caught fish... certainly have had my best fish when that screen has been blank... :?: A :^)

I find most of the usefulness is simply knowing what the bottom is like - finding channels, reefs, isolated rocks, knowing you're so shallow the next big wave is going to break on you ...
