I know it is bad taste but I could not resist. These photos show when not to cross a bar. Yes it is a dangerous bar, but near low tide when the flow is still going out with a 4m plus swell running and an off shore wind to stand the waves up.
Yep, one dead and a couple badly shaken. You have to wonder what was so urgent they couldn't wait 4 hours or so.

bugger! I saw something very close to that out from Whangamata a few weeks ago, during a big swell. The guy, not once, but twice, almost got pushed into the rocks at the bar. Was worried for them.

Yeah something like that. Lady Rose was the name of the boat. No way I would have gone out!

Yip that was us, we left 3/4 of the duck board standing in the surf! Was worried about the surfies! Two duckwits were trolling on the way in, one egg hooked up just before the s#$t hit, and wanted the skipper to stop?? That egg would have joined the surfers if i hadn't grabbed his collar. Poor skipper was bullied into going out by about 10 peps from hams, most of whom got sick and were the reason we came back just on low tide.

re the top incident, there's now allegations that Talleys told the boat it was safe to come in. Can't believe any skipper would accept that and not use their own judgement

I like technology. I especially like to hit it with a big stick!!!!

We don't hate the fat B*tch. We just can't find anything about her to not dislike

Yes, Lister, there's a lot of blaming of Talleys going on.

It could be so...but as you say, the skipper has to have the final decision.
