I think so.

I understand the local suppliers don't want to fix gear that isn't under a NZ warranty. They get paid a percentage of the NZ purchase price to fund any claims and they don't get that from units purchased outside NZ. Some companies recognise this trend and have altered their model so that claims can be made back to head office from any country. Sounds like this is not one of those companies.
There is however an opportunity here for local suppliers. With more and more people choosing to purchase overseas (or maybe they immigrated) I would think they were keen to cash in on the out of warranty spare parts business. If they don't stock the model then I understand again but when they say they don't have parts even for people who bought in NZ then that worries me. In the future this may be their only sales opportunity. They can't just complain about the global purchasing system, holding on to their current system because they will just continue to loose customers. They need to transform as the market does.

If it's part of, or fixed to the kayak, the kayak would need to be insured to claim and the f/f listed. If it is removable like a handheld GPS it is under house contents.

Had this convo with AMI 2 days ago.

Is there nothing on the net about a US replacement screen? Ebay or something?? If you break a mobile phone screen there's heaps of info online!

There's been close to a 2 billion smartphones sold in the world, so you would expect a decent spare parts chain.
For Lowrance, not so much. Unless there's a back door supply or something that we can find, we're probably out of luck.

Unless I can find someone who can repair it, this might be my only option. Run it until it dies or something lol.
It's a long shot, but try these guys. At least for some spare parts.

I've done a little reading on the topic, confirmed by someone here too, that the glass is actually bonded to the LCD behind and/or the case itself, which is why it isn't a serviceable part.

Totally agree there mate. I hope none of my posts come across as bad-mouthing or overly complaining (other than my FF is broken lol). I never expected any warrantee support etc, and I'm not saying things like 'Lowrance sucks' or anything. All I'm trying to do is find a solution :y:

Any thoughts to getting a glass repairer to fill it like they do with car windshields?

I'd say drop into an auto glass outfit and try. There is nothing to lose, if they say no you at least tried, if they say yes they'll give it a go you have a chance at a win. The old saying, "If you try you may fail, if you do not try failure is guaranteed."

Bryce for a quick and cheap fix you could try a car tinting place or a sign writing place and get some of their clear plastic stick-on film. It has uv properties and anti glare plus it may help stop water getting in. It won't hide the crack but it may help.
It could also help protect a ff screen from just everyday knocks and bumps plus salt etc. The same as a screen protector on a cell phone. Just a thought.
