I only recently discovered that Barracouta, which I notice you all seem to hate, is in fact what we South Africans know as Snoek. Another Saffer friend of mine got a kayak recently and when I told him it's the same fish, we decided we might want to go 'couta hunting.

So... where's the closest place to Auckland where we're likely to find Couta?

Don't bother telling me what a horrible fish it is and that they're often invested with worms... A cooked worm is just more protein and I have some great memories of eating couta as a young man. Eating it by hand straight off the BBQ drenched in garlic butter and apricot jam mixture, it's pretty damn good stuff.

I lost a couple of jigs around Motuora a couple of months ago that I suspect were couta.
