ReLoad Rod Storage / Two Piece Rod Gloves

One of the reasons I decided to buy a ReLoad around this time last year, was the fact that it had a front hatch that was accessible whilst on the water...

Over the long weekends and holidays I tend to end up in Bream Bay where there is a tendency for surf launches and re-entries. I had previously had a OK 4.3 and whilst I had "jerry rigged"a rod tube on it, it was a little agricultural and restrictive.

So, the accessibility of the ReLoad hatch appealed to me. Now I know that they have a bungy cord on the front deck and the grooves in the front combing, and these do work, but when you've turtled a few times, your gear gets wet and damaged if its sitting on the deck...

So until recently, on a surf launch / re-entry, the rods (all are two piece) get broken done and put in there. Once on the water, i slide up the tackle pod and lean forward, open the hatch and pull the rods out and put them together. The shortcoming though is that things get awfully tangled up when theres more than 1 x rod !!....one memorable day when fishing with a mate I carried out 4 x rods broken done in the front and I reckon it took me 15 mins on the water to untangle everything !! |( |(

So...... introducing the 2-Piece Rod Glove...... very simple and blinding obvious !!

Slide up and open the front hatch...

Pull out the 2 -Piece Rod Glove..

Break the rod down in half, and wind the surplus line onto the reel. Slide the Rod Glove over the rod halfs and secure the tip end against the handle with the tie supplied.

If you want, you can protect the reel with the a Rod Glove Reel Cover.. Here's one used on my spinning rod, and the baitcaster without one...
Slide the rods into the front hatch, and close it all up again !! :y:

The entire process takes a few minutes and you can then launch / re-entry completely confident that your expensive gear isnt going to get wrecked or full of salt water !!

Now the obligatory safety warning:...Opening an internal access hatch has its risks ! The above should only be attempted with the greatest of care and should not be done if there is any risk of capsize or water entering the hull !

Yeah...nah.... If I got a Stealth, then I'd be writing threads about carpet / mat storage on Stealths, as we all know "Stealth owners have delicate bottoms".. ;)
