I've been considering one also. Ten year battery life is attractive.

That $500 won't include subscription charges to the satellite company, or charges for calls made received. Find out how much these are before thinking $500 is cheap.
I had a very quick look at the website for charges, but got bored trying to work out all the different tariff / call options available...
Do you go out of cell range? If not a good waterproof bag /holder for the cell could be a better option. Smart phones have all the tracking options available as apps these days.
