Running Rig - cockpit to stern?

Here's where you get your hands dirty, so to speak. So if you like to build or customize things for the yak, this is your forum

I bought a new kayak which doesn't have a running rig, so I'll have to install one.

Question is... do you really need it to go to the bow?

I only intend to anchor from the stern, so was thinking of having it run from cockpit to stern only.

Less rope = less things in the way to get tangled on.

How often do others find themselves anchoring from the bow?

I don't see any reason to limit yourself to stern only. The tangle argument doesn't really hold up in the real world.

I run my drogue stern or bow depending on wind, current, chop, and what I'm doing.

Also having a rope running the full length gives you something easy to grab, should you end up in the drink.
Electronics : its still magic, even when you know how its done.

never needed to go to the bow. always anchor or drogue from the rear so a half length suits me

Hate facing the sun in summer! Forget about wind and current, I want the option just for that reason.

Just to throw a curve ball - I only run off the bow nowadays on the rare occasions I do throw a drogue out.
As Awondering says, you get to keep an eye on sneaky waves. If you do need to lift the drogue in a hurry, a couple of paddle strokes and pick it up and drop in the lap as you go past.

Do you still cast in the direction of drift with the drogue up front?

Can cast and work the rods 360° 8)
Have raised a few eyebrows when I flick a SB 30m behind me without even looking, although I usually cast to my 4 or 8 o'clock.
