Just wondering if any of you innovative DIY kiwis have built a shed for storing a kayak. Mine is currently stored in our garage but space is limited. Look forward to your pictures

Ah bugger, that sucks! It looks like that was a pulley which let that rig down?Hawk wrote:8 hrs, and no one has mentioned this:

That's one thing I didn't shirk on, overdoing with the load capacity of pulleys, rope, strop and cleat
All that goes out the window now, because after seeing this, I suddenly find myself more on edge
Thanks for posting the link to that thread

I did something similar. I used a cheap trailer winch ($25 on TM) to make lifting easier, so the cable is steel wire. Also got some solid pulleys at Bunnings. Unfortunately it sits just low enough for me to smack my head on it if I'm not paying attention. The red cords in the second pic are attached to hooks on the beams and are the backup to catch the kayak in case anything else fails.

Seeing as we're all sharing, here's my Stealth shed, they are kept warm and dry in a 20' steel shipping container!
And the plastic gets to live outside

Is that the new house? Finished already!?owaldock wrote:This mobile storage/filleting bench is useful as. The casters enable me to move it around the garage easy enough. I even wheel it out to load it on and off the car (the Prowler isn't the lightest yak in the world). I bunged a plumbed sink in the top too so doubles as a filleting bench.

Nah still very much a work in progress. I suspect the tradies have managed to sneak in a few more fishing days than me though...AntN wrote:Is that the new house? Pretty simple design and effective.I have rope on at the moment which doesnt seen to roll easily through the pullets at this stage but an easy change to make later.
I had a local upholstery guy stitch up some trampoline mat for me to act as a sling so no point loading over longer storage times.
The matting had 6 eyes added to it for attatchment points.
I made up a spreader bar at work in my lunch break.
The pullleys are from a lifting centre and over rated for what I required.
Very happy with the result and happy to help out if any locals want to look at something similar.
From memory this complete setup cost me about $200.
