Re: Rolling Question

Through necessity I learnt to roll on my "master side" first. Like HLD has pointed out, that then took alot of practice to "actively think" about every stage when trying to roll on my weak side, trying to almost mirror the process I was used to without reverting back to it. it wa...

Re: Murky water soft baiting

Agreed, try it all, vary it up. if its in front of their face most snapper will bite as a aggressive reaction anyway. Just on the colour side of things, I tend to go for "Dark water = dark lure", the idea being that a darker colour bait will give a stronger silhouette than a brighter one. ...

x 3 (or is that 4) for the KASK handbook. :y:
I rate that for all kayakers
Coastal sea kayaking NZ is also a good read (not really a beginner book as such, but still worth a read).

Re: Ideas to improve a kayak long line

My trace board is a bit of down pipe with notches in each end. Traces hook into the notches at each end holding the lines tight which stops tangles. I just find the down pipe takes up less room on the yak than a conventional trace board.
I don't have a photo on me but I hope it makes sense.

Re: Tahe Greenlander T (sort of review)

8) Looking good , what ratio length wise and shoulder taper are you using HLD ?-seems to be a few theories re cubits and anatomical lengths. My GL (currently in production) is my armspan and a cubit long (roughly). The loom is my shoulder width long. The widest part of the blade is hand grip wide (...

Re: Tahe Greenlander T (sort of review)

The photos were taken off my laptop camera and dont do it justice, but here is my storm paddle. The grain looks a bit funny in the pics, but looks really nice in real life. greenland.jpg greenland 1.jpg Its pine cause i couldnt get my hands on any cedar yet (the next one will hopefully be cedar). nd...

Re: Spraydeecks

Having a bomb proof roll is def the way to go. Get in a pool and do some practice if you need to. I have (touch wood) never needed to pull a deck in anger other than in a polo game (cause i managed to end up with the nose of the kayak jammed in the hole that runs around the side of the pool, prevent...

Re: Catching Squid in East Auckland

In season, Tamaki drive can be very productive. Sk8e8 and i tend to do regular after work sessions towards the end of the year and normally come home with a good feed. As Muntid says the boys at Yehaa have their finger on the pulse when it comes to squid fishing so worth talking with them. Ive never...

Nice review Chris, there's a GL Rolling meetup at Mahurangi over Labour weekend - can send you contact details if interested. You'll need to have finished your GL by then though or risk being ridiculed :y: please do. Im working on the paddle now, about halfway. But due to a slight technical issue i...

Re: Tahe Greenlander T (sort of review)

I wondered if the waterline length is shorter than some others of the same overall length with the rocker and sharply raked stem & stern ? Yea your right with that, it does shorten the water line length, that being said at 5.45m the wetted surface would still be around the 5m mark. and this kay...
