Re: Another Naki Whopper

Yep, and I'll bet none of them were caught on soft baits.

Re: Photograph your gear !!!

Sorry to hear that Stephen. Insurance companies are almost as much of a pain and frustration as the those who stoll your stuff.

Re: Wooden SOT

I'm really keen, I have a friend who has built a stitch and glue surf/play kayak and it takes a pounding and is lighter than his plastic white water boats. Another guy I know has built a lake kayak and it looks great.

Wooden SOT

Has anyone made a SOT fishing kayak using stitch and glue or any other wooden style?
Something like this I am thinking.

Re: Garmin Etrex Gps

Yes, they are quite different from my understanding. The Etrex is +-12m, the Etrex H is +- 3m. The H is what all new GPS's have been for a few years.

Re: Taranaki Kayak Classic

Yakman, my kayak needs a little more than luck. My P13 has bit the road. I could not fish this Naki Classic so lent it to a friend so he could take out the new son inlaw to be. One end fell off the trailer and 70metres later it looks more like a shark. ;(

Re: Naki out wide

The weird part is all our normal species have to survive in the rich blue water that carries all the pelagic species. Makes for very varied fishing and lots of fun.

Re: Naki out wide

The blue water is between 500m to 3kms off the north taranaki beaches. Last year it made it to the beaches like Onaero. Yep, some friends got a skippy off the beach. Currently it is less than 1km off Fitzroy, Bell Block and Waitara.

Re: Am I Kidding Myself?? Part II

I agree it was a school, but they were only interested in the subject of softbaits. My baits were of no interest. I was really keen to get in on the action so I was fishing hard. Even straylined on one drift.

Re: Am I Kidding Myself?? Part II

I'm confused. I normally kayak fish Bell Block in Taranaki with bait. New years eve I went out on a boat, 2 soft baiter's and 2 of us with bait. For the first 5 hours on many drifts I was the only one to catch legal fish and that was only 5. In the final 45min on 3 drifts the two softbaiter's caught...

Re: Do you use an anchor?

Sorry, should have noticed, the tagit anchor on page 1 is set up wrong in my opinion. The chain should be permanently fixed to the other end.

Re: Do you use an anchor?

As I nearly always anchor I have some opinions. I use the 'Rainbow' method. http://www.fishing.net.nz/asp_forums/anchor-system-without-running-rig_topic45525_post645688.html?KW=anchor#645688 If a really big fish makes your day just unclip the whole anchor system and come back to it later. Don't forg...
