Re: Clueless but keen to try Taupo
I used 15lb mono in front of and behind the leadline, and a number 4 parson's glory. The water temp was 61-62 Fahrenheit. We were staying in a bach on rainbow drive - who's chad? does he let anyone stay? :^) I doubt I'll be able to make it up north for the comp this year, but I'll keep it in mind, a...

Re: Clueless but keen to try Taupo
Thanks for your help again Karl, I managed two trips out on Taupo, one of which was a 10km harl from 2 mile bay over to acacia bay and round past mcdonalds  which produced nothing. The second trip was right outside our bookabach at rainbow point. Cause it was a bit windy I didn't go too far, an...

Re: Clueless but keen to try Taupo
Thanks very much for the offer Karl, but we're going in a few days so I'll have to go buy some - I guess I can have a look at all the shiny gear in the shop and dream of winning lotto!
And no worries Mr D, it's all good stuff:)

Re: Clueless but keen to try Taupo
Wow, Cheers Karl! I'll try to get all this stuff sorted out, and if I catch anything I'll certainly put a report in!! Thanks especially for the spots - Wasn't expecting that!! My last attempt to catch trout (from the bank) was just a full day splashing flies in the river, scaring fish away, and bein...

Clueless but keen to try Taupo
Hey guys, I have never tried freshwater fishing from the yak before - do i need to get/rent a new rod and reel, or can i use one of the saltwater ones with a fly or a jig on it? I'm spending a few days in kinloch soon and thought I might take the yak along.

Re: Unlucky with fishfinders - cuda 168 broke again
Andrew, thanks for the encouragement, but i'll wait till i've proved i can look after my gear before i buy expensive stuff to break! Nige, yes it does help, thanks, I might try the same with mine. I priced up some connectors and they were 50 bucks for the pair, so i'm keen for a cheaper fix, and thi...

Unlucky with fishfinders - cuda 168 broke again
The fish finder had been working for a little while, but one day didn't seem to be reading depths right, I noticed this cause my mate asked me how deep my finder was reading, and he knew it was about 5 meters - it was reading 15! The simulation mode had turned on automatically. Turns out that if the...

2 hangovers and a dry turtle
I texted Keento saturday night to check we're still on... "i'm drinking" he says back, I'm thinking it's not looking likely for Sunday. Then he says "free burley" - maybe he will make it! Well the weather was perfect, slightly overcast with no wind and no swell, so I met up with k...

White Cliffs 12 feb
Started on the back foot - up at 4.30, in trouble before 5 for waking the baby and the missus. Arrived at WC with my fishing buddy as dawn was breaking. Managed to park the car on the road instead of the gutter this time. Looks like the day might get better! Paddled out on a small swell to somewhere...

Ok, forecast isn't as nice for Tuesday as it was so I'll delay till wednesday 6pm start, with thursday as the backup if wednesday doesn't look as good. Is this good with you Kpo? (no worries if not). Thanks for letting us know about the club night YakDr - I hadn't realised there was a club!
