Re: Orere mysteries

Happens I guess! Another time off Tutakaka - I was fishing with a mate and we had near identical set ups and the exact same soft baits. We were fishing the same area, yet he was catching way more fish than me. I was very puzzled ( and p1ssed off!). The only difference between out set ups was drogue ...

Re: Orere mysteries

Were you using the same type of leader and jig head? Jig head weights and lighter fluorocarbon have made big differences to me before. At Rangiputa and the Barrier, I have changed slow sessions to good sessions by making my leader a lot lighter. I guess water clarity was very high there, so the ligh...

Narrow Neck - Sunday 4 Dec

Had a great, yet short session on Sunday. Was on the beach at by 5.20, paddling by 5.40. I planned to paddle over to "Destin's" on the bottom end of Rangitoto and soft bait there. I got about half way to the shipping lane in about 8 m of water and saw sign. I dropped a 20 gram jitterbug and picked u...

Blair - southern end towards Destin's.
Trini - I fish less now with two young kids, but hopefully catch you out there soon.

Everyone - sorry about the double post of the TR - I call it nappy brain.

Back in the saddle, NN 31 Aug

The sh1tty winter winter, plus the birth of our second son, has meant that I have not fished since the first weekend of May. After seeing the awesome forecast this week, I decided that "I had to go and see some clients at Rangitoto" on Wednesday morning. I loaded up the kayak the night before, woke ...

How is Army Bay fishing at present?

Given the general lack of trip reports - I was wondering how Army Bay has been fishing lately? Think of making my debut there this weekend. My local spot in the Rangi Channel is going well at present - but always keen to try a new spot, with the chance of some bigger fish.
Cheers.

Narrow Neck 3 April

Was up early, and set off for Rangi in complete darkness. Got to Rangi as it was getting light. Got a good fish early on 64cm (9.5 pounds) on a Zman Shiner jerk shad, in 6m of water. I carried on getting fish in this manner through the morning, including a nice 7 pound fish (and lost another of simi...
