New to Horowhenua coast.

Howdy. I am moving from Upper Hutt to Levin shortly. Normally fish in the summer / autumn months a bit further down at Pukerua Bay. I'm looking at heading out at our local beaches once we settle in and water gets warmer. Are there any folk who head out at Hokio beach or Waikawa beach way? I'm keen t...

Re: Newbie from Nelson

Welcome mate! I purchased a 2+1 new on trade me for $950 ish. It was a second but all that was wrong was a misplaced sticker. I think it came from the guys at the factory shop. You could give them a bell and see what they have... The kayak also came with 2 new 2 piece paddles. Yes the 2+1 is a breez...

Month of May, a force to be reckoned with!!

Was blessed to be able to head out for a fish this afternoon at my favourite little Bay Pukerua. Should really have been working but I'm the boss so what the hang! [emoji23]. Forecast was 8-9/10 and we were in May so I had high hopes of success. Previous May outings in years gone by have been fruitf...

Re: Pukerua Bay still firing!

Nice snaps. Blind eel? That was a new one for me. Had to Google it. They sound horrendous! :puke: Yes indeed they are! A bucket of slime / snot in a big ball on the end of your line. Line not to be used again as this seems to be their defence mechanism and other fish don't like what's in the slime....

Pukerua Bay still firing!

Headed out Sat arvo with a 7/10 forecast and with very few out. As I was getting ready to head in at 3pm ish the two other yakkers next to me were packing up having been out since 10am. One of them had pulled a 22lb Snapper out of the briny and a Kingi and stacks of Kahawai. I thought this sounds pr...

Re: Wednesday Morning - Makara

Decided early Wednesday this weather was too good to not miss a crack at trying out the new gear. Quick phone call to the Boss and after I dropped the better half in at work, had the car and yak all packed up and ready to go at 8.30. Stupid me though 30 min trip to Makara become an hour, I could've...

Rough conditions produce again!

Mike and I arrived at Pukerua Bay early Sat morning with a sketchy forecast of 5/10 that was supposed to worsen. It was still dark when I got there and when Mike's car lights were shining on the water we thought not looking good to get out! We waited until it was light enough to make out what we wer...

Lost and found at Puk Bay!

Shot out early this morning for a quick fish before wind got any stronger. Forecast wasn't great so had to make the most of it. Paddled out into moderate onshore wind. It was a little like being in a washing machine! Nothing too serious though. Managed to land a decent Snapper first up on running ri...

Re: Beaut day at Makara

On the weekend I had such a good day at Makara. Sun shining and water calm. Went straight out to the 30m mark and on the first drop I pulled in a good trevalley of 44cm. Then later two snapper of similar size, then a good kahawai, then finally a blue cod. But what made the day so special for me was...

Re: Pukerua Pannies 27-1-18

Good effort ,eh, but trying to comment without sounding bitchy, whats the limit down there? Yes we are very fortunate down here the limit is still 10. I wondered if someone might comment on that! Unlike more northern waters we only really get Snapper here for half a year as the water is too cold fo...

Re: Pukerua pannies 27-1-18

Had one of my best fishing sessions in a long while yesterday. Mike and I were on the water at around 6:15am. Was thinking of usual spot over sand but because of moderate S.E. winds we decided to pull up a bit shorter. Once anchored up and pumping berley we didn't have to wait long at all before th...

Early one at Puk Bay

Got up at 4am and on the water at 5:30pm. Slow fishing at usual spot off the toilet block so paddled around past Wairaka point. Conditions mint as and silky smooth until Northerly hit at 10ish. There was zero current at first and nearly always no current = no bites! Sure enough when the current star...
