Re: A cautionary tale
An effective and simple technique to learn/practice is the 'bongo slide' https://www.kayakpaddling.net/ A "Low Brace" is what you are after (technical name for your 'Bongo Slide' I suspect?), will save you a turtle 99.9% of the time if done correctly. Check out 'SeaKayakingTV' channel on ...

Re: Tomorrow 10/02 AM fish on
How you go Wayne? We started slow then it went off with good sized snaps. I have seen some photos that would indicate he did pretty good Jonno  Sounds like you had a good day out :y: . No fishing for me again these days off looking at the forecast, looking good for my first day back next bloc...

Re: This weekend?
Lightning raid off BBK for a feed of snaps was the plan for Sunday morning, as aka A-Team, 'I love it when a plan comes together'. Back on shore at 830 with a bin of snapper. Snapper and Kahawai fighting over every bait. Nice catch there MikG. How deep are you fishing off BBK? My old man was out of...

Re: my fellow kayakers
I agree with Itsallablur. As we all know kayak fishing is very popular in Taranaki now and growing, especially around the Port/Islands. Mass education is the key and I guess it's about finding the best way to get it out there. I think the way to go would be do everything we possibly can, the ideas m...

Re: Coastguard pulls my wet cold ass out of the water
Good post Mike, something everyone can learn from. Years ago I took my brand new kayak for a test paddle off the port and noticed on way back in it felt a bit 'tippy'. Got to boat ramp and could hardly drag it up the ramp. Ended up being a pin hole in a scupper. If I had gone fishing that day could ...

Re: Incident, Onearo.
Just so anyone considering a PLB is aware, they are the last of the rescue options. After you hit the button you're realistically looking at a couple of hours before the cavalry come over the hill... which is a long, long time to hang onto a kayak while in the water. Just to clarify we are talking ...

Re: Incident, Onearo.
Good subject to discuss. For me being that I paddle on my own 99% of the time its safety drills on a regular basis, usual safety precautions (2 x comms, flares, TR etc) and worst case I have a PLB on my person. Flick the aerial up, press a button and the jobs done. Fantastic peace of mind

Barracuda 'Interface'
I had the pleasure of paddling the new Barracuda 'Interface' a few days ago (I paddled the medium volume boat) care of Canoe and Kayak (thanks Pete!). The only thing I can really compare it to is my Southern Skua being that I have done almost all of my paddling in the Skua. Obviously a very differen...
