Papamoa 22.09 - Double hook up

Crushed the "honey do list" on Saturday so had a day pass for a fish Sunday. Ate a good breakfast and headed out around 08:30. 3 weeks ago I had been catching snaps in about 10m so stopped around a k off shore and threw out a few casts. There was a nice steady 5kt onshore so I had a nice drift going...

Papamoa 27.04

Had to work this morning so shot out for a fish after lunch. Forecast was good 10kts and slight seas rising to 15kts this evening. Got to the beach around 13:45 to discover the wind and nasty chop had arrived early. Summoned up all the Machismo I could muster and decided to have a go regardless. Win...

Re: Anyone use the front hatch on the Profish 400?

I find its the best place to keep a sponge. I have one of those large carwash sponges there and use it to remove any water. After a sortie I remove the hatch cover and lift the 400 from the rear handles, all the water runs to the bow and the sponge sucks it up, After an outing in a big seas I may ha...

Easter at Tiro

Got to Tiro good friday just before lunch, sea was not flash due to strong SSW wind but we went out for a couple of hours. Jagged a couple of kw but the drift was so fast and the chop was pretty messy to not much action bottom fishing. Saturday morning we woke up to much better conditions. Sun shini...

Papamoa 13.04

Headed out from Harrison's around 08:00, it seemed like I had the bay of plenty to myself, just me and a couple of Shearwaters. The 20kt winds were forceast to tail off after 09:00. SSW (cross/off) made the paddle out easy enough, the chop was a bit of a :swear: tho. Fished for an hour and only had ...

Great TR
Some times Trevs just pull on the line to begin with, you think you have caught some weed and then after you have retrieved some string they go nuts.

Papamoa

Forecast looked good for sunday through tuesday, checked the beach sunday morning, I could have walked to Mayor just jumping from boat to boat. So I worked sunday and went out this morning and had the place to myself. Paddled to about the 15 m mark and had a couple of drifts, not action went to anot...

Squirt pimped for fishing

My young fella has suddenly developed an interest outside of his computer screen. :o Kayak fishing! I suggested maybe he could rent a yak for a day and see how he liked it. He is only a wee fella and he thought that the 4m yaks on offer were probably going to be too much to handle. He has had...

Re: profish 400 vs profish gt

Hi Jay I have a 400 I typically paddle 3km off shore in the surf and swell at Papamoa with no difficulty. I am 56 , not terribly fit and not a good paddler by any stretch. I could comfortably go further but I get fish there so why bother? The 400 is quite a bit lighter and easy to handle out of the ...

Easter at Tiro

Stayed in a friend's batch at Tirohanga for easter. Saturday: Real nice conditions, wind from the NE, pushed off the beach around 09:00. Once I was through the break zone I tossed a bibbed lure out the back. Made about 10 paddle strokes and picked up a nice Ky. Threw him in the pod and tossed the lu...

Re: Papamoa 10.03.15 - I love fluro carbon

Hi Swivels Yeah surf was a bit borderline. Getting out was not too bad but comming in I had to be careful. I watched the surf while I was packing up and gutting fish etc and thought if it had looked like that when I arrived I probably would not have gone out. You have to pick your times at Papamoa. ...
