Re: Prowler Ultra 4.3

Sorry to hear mate, in a similar situation myself, so I can sympathise. :worried: I'm not 100% but aren't you the young fella that borrowed one of my yaks years ago when I lived in Nelson to do the Abel Tasman with your mate? Good luck with the sale, that's virtually the same setup I have, whoever g...

Cheers Andrew and to you also. I was a wee bit sceptical when someone told me to batter Kahawai fresh, and I still smoke most of it but this is incredible. It's a bit fiddly getting rid of the dark meat but well worth it.

Cheers Santa

Pretty calm at the Rakaia today, thought we'd go for a Paddle, Rach not been out for a year. The mouth has moved a km up the lagoon but the old mouth still a bit dodgy for all but the most intrepid 4WDers, so only a handful about. Not been a good year for the salmon at all but the Kahawai are plenti...

Re: Went for a fish but had a shag instead

Gotta stop reading posts based on their title :tmi:

I got a tern (there's a joke in there somewhere) up the Rakaia lagoon a few weeks ago, took me ages to untangle the little bugger and he bit the hell out of my hand while I was feeing him the sod.

Well said mate, and to be fair this is the best forum by far I have been involved with, the help and advice is plentiful, contributions overwhelmingly positive. I'm a member of one of the hunting forums too, among others, and rarely post on it, no matter what you say someone will jump all ove...

Beautiful, LRN and I had this happen to us at the Glen one morning, and while I never felt directly threatened the sensation of being in control is not fore in the mind when they sweep in close.

Thanks for sharing and bringing all those memories back 8)

First Canterbury catch - Rakaia mouth

Technically not kayak-caught, but the kayak was necessary to get me to the spot. "How did you get out here, did ya walk all this way up the bank"? "No, I have a kayak just over the other side". "You what mate"? No Salmon still but an epic time reeling in the KY and a bit wetter paddling back up the ...

Re: Anyone kayak fishing in Canterbury?

Awesome pic! I've moved recently from Nelson to Southbridge so having to adapt from Salt to freshwater. The Rakaia Lagoon is an amazing place to paddle if you venture a little North. I've had 3 goes and seen Salmon but not yet landed one but my fishing exploits are never an indication of what is lik...
