Re: Eastern Beach, Auckland

My biggest snapper, was so stoked :y: I have a Shimano baitrunner so was straylining with the reel on the lighter secondary drag, should have heard it take off! Gopro was set a little bit high on the head mount but its my first video, glad I got to capture this though. Would love to land a kingie on...

Re: 2 kayaks on roof racks?

My partner occasionally fishes with me and this is how I carry the 2 kayaks. Its a Cobra Play on top so you will have to test it with the longer kayak first. Trick is to place a thin exercise mat etc. in between the two kayaks to compress onto the lower kayak and prevent any slipping. As you can see...

Re: best battery for ff ?

I have been using the 9Ah on a Garmin Echo 300C and have my FF on for most of my +-5hr trips. Works really well, not sure why you would want to go bigger unless you are using other devices or have a FF that is drawing heaps of current. If I remember correctly they jump up quite a bit in size, mass a...

Re: first fishfinder ?

Throwing a spanner in the works here, but for $300 you could get a Garmin Echo 300C which I think is an awesome FF. I have been using one for a while now and have to say its really an awesome unit for a relatively low price. My mate has the black and white version, and I'm glad I spent the extra $$$...

I am not familiar with worm hooks but I think an alternative method is to tuck the tip back into the softbait?

Re: Rigged Cobra Play

Yup, figure 8, bend the tag end over the knot (if you have space in your heat shrink) and heat shrink the lot.
I use the same method for my rod, paddle, net, vhf etc. leashes.
They use a simalar, if not the same method for surfboard leashes too.

Re: Rigged Cobra Play

Fittings and fasteners are up. I also added that I tap the holes into the kayak to get an even better seal on the bolted connections. Even though if the connection is tightened correctly you should not get water ingress if the silicon fails. Besides being easy to install, another good thing about se...

Rigged Cobra Play

Thought I would upload where my partners kayak is after about 6 months worth of fishing. We bought it in its most basic form so it did not come with much gear, just a couple handles etc. Kayak fishing does not need to cost you a fortune, you can do it on the cheap but the more expensive rigs are wel...

Re: Rigged Cobra Marauder and Garmin Echo 300C Installation

Cheers guys, hope it helps somebody out in future.

I will put up the mods on the Cobra Play in a seperate post this weekend, just need to pull it out and wipe off the dust.
Unfortunately the missus seems to be losing interest in the fishing these days.

Rigged Cobra Marauder and Garmin Echo 300C Installation

Thought I would upload where my kayak is after about a years worth of fishing. Cheers to everyone for the advice, really happy with this setup. Most of the 316 stainless fittings and fasteners are from Anzor (Auckland), I get massive staff discount through my company  Visit their website http:...

Re: Finishing touches to the Maurauder

Yeah its a pity about the dash, quite like the idea of putting the 4" hatch in to stow the rods away.
Not doing any surf entries yet but probably will be some time in the future.
Got another month or so until I get the FF so will have to think about what I want to do.

Re: Cobra Marauder Fish Finder Advice and Installation (Garmin Echo 300c, battery?)

I'm pretty sold on the Echo 300C, good to know its working well for you.
Reckon the 7 amp hour is the way to go for my fishing, never thought of putting it in closed cell foam.

Thanks

Re: Finishing touches to the Maurauder

Hey mate,

How is the fish finder mounted up front working out for you?
I'm about to mount my Garmin Echo 300C but cant decide between the bait board or up front :?:
Quite tall (6ft+) but and would prefer to keep it like yours...nice setup.

Re: My new Cobra Marauder

Hey mate, How do you find the reach to your fish finder up front? Have not used a fish finder yet so not sure how often you need to fiddle with it anyway. I'm quite tall (6ft+) and am not sure whether to put my Garmin 300c on the hatch or up front where you have put it. Looks neat where youve put it...

Cobra Marauder Fish Finder Advice and Installation (Garmin Echo 300c, battery?)

Firstly I have to say that this site is impressive, made my life so much easier! :y: Bought my kayak about 6 weeks ago and am kitting it out, looking forward to getting a fish finder on the yak. Next on the list is a Garmin handheld GPS. Got some decent snapper off the yak on the weekend, best fishi...
