Re: Got me a trailer
Yeah, trailers certainly have a place. I only cartop at the moment because I have a clapped out Toyota and my 'other' trailer is a hulking 300kg beast with springs that aren't kind to glass yaks - and you know you're dragging nearly a half tonne of steel when towing. Saying that, if I'm doing a rem...

Re: Cape Karikari?
Scallops are almost impossable to find up here but you may be able to find a cray or two, with matai bay being out your best bet might be taking a drive up to henderson bay or Rarawa and trying the reef structure around there - both can be shore dives or try around cable bay/ coopers beach area - no...

Re: Floats for drift chutes
Yep I have never used a float on mine and I used a drift chute over 10 years, these days with the pdl the chute has become redundant lolAndrewRawlingson wrote: ↑Sun Jul 23, 2017 4:18 pm Heresy, but I used a drift chute for 5 years of solid kayak fishing without a float. Nothing bad happened. I didn't die.

Wrap warm - there's always an icey first light katabatic that sneaks down the valley, puts it's hands under your shirt and whispers, " Feel that??"
You should get adventurous and head a little further north, theres a bunch of us hitting matai bay.....

Re: WHATUWHIWHI KAYAK OPEN DAY
When I started kayaking I joined up to both groups and I've learned lots from both. And I can see why the NZKFG have removed Rob's videos as there are a lot of conflicting sponsors. Nothing against Rob, as his videos have been very helpful and given me heaps of information about kayaking, but he's ...

Re: WHATUWHIWHI KAYAK OPEN DAY
Ok As this has turned into a discussion about the social media kayaking scene and I'm mentioned I'm going to add my thoughts. Let me start by stating that this forum has been instrumental in developing me into the complete kayak fisherman that I am today and it has my 100 per cent support, I don't p...

Re: Free Diving from Kayak
Yep I do a fair bit, not too much different to free diving off a boat but I suggest that you dont try to put yr wetsuit on while on the water. I usually just anchor the kayak but at times will two it along attached to my float line... I have some kayak free diving vids on my utube channel here https...

Re: Corrosion protection
Thanks for the post. Earlier today I noticed my battery had some blue deposits on the positive terminal. I went to scratch it off with my fingernail but managed to break the terminal :@ :swear: . It was a near new battery and an expensive lesson. I was contemplating on using the soldering iron to r...

Re: Stealth vs. Old Town Predator pedal drive
Thanks for that Grant, my 2kg live baits are being towed around for marlin - a really small one here would still be 60kg and most are between 80 and 120kg, the marlin that I hooked a few weeks ago would have been well over 200kg...

Re: Stealth vs. Old Town Predator pedal drive
I switched from paddle to pedal in 2007 and have now owned several Hobie Revolutions and a couple of Adventures. It is worth remembering that they are mechanically powered thus have potential for drive failure. I believe that I am fastidious about maintenance yet have still had a few issues with br...
