Re: 955 Meters
Could you work from home in the future? You have to get up at 6:30 every morning because you're not doing your ideal job, being a fortune teller??? I just got offered a job this week for a startup, which would be working from home. I'm going to turn this one down for a whole bunch of reasons, but y...

Re: 955 Meters
I don't think property is expensive in NZ, just Auckland and a few other hotspots, but I suppose it depends on what you're comparing it to and wages etc Maybe, although NZ as a whole is now considered the most expensive country for property in the world relative to income. But for me, my kids are i...

955 Meters
Just wanted to share this with someone who'd appreciate the importance of it... I just signed for my first house in NZ (not easy to afford for us poor foreigners). A new build in Glenbrook which is 58kms from my job in Mt Wellington, but it's all that I could find within my budget that I could get e...

Re: Auckland Boat Show 2019 - WildCat 3.1 - The next step up from a kayak?
I wonder how it compares to the Smartwave and Mac boats? I have the Smartwave 3.5m and it's not perfect, but I'm pretty happy with it. That cost $3,700 and would be the equivalent of what the Wildcat has listed for $4,100. Not a big difference in price, but I'd be interested to know how they compare...

Re: Weather limits
WindGuru is my favourite, but it's a good idea to check a few sites as they use different models. For me, when I was on a yak, if WindGuru showed anything over 15 knots wind speed or 20 knots gusts, then I'd choose my location accordingly. As SitDown says, bad weather is much more manageable in shal...

Re: Boating Question
So... turns out these Smartwave boats' hulls are molded for short shaft ans they just use two different metal "plates" on top of the plastic to make it long or short shaft. Just got the boat back from the manufacturer this afternoon and they've replaced the metal plate with a short one at ...

Re: Kawakawa-orere 12 jan
Well, I was on a boat with my son, not a kayak. He got 6 snapper and I got 5.
We did troll a softbait behind the boat on the way back and had something on for a brief moment, but it was gone by the time I'd killed the motor and picked up the rod.

Yeah, I was just around the corner in Kawakawa bay and it sure was hot out there!! And I also saw the really small fish jumping all over the place.
That's a decent sized carrot there!

New Boat Taking On Water
So... 3rd trip out with my new boat and I took my younger son (13yo) with me this time. It was low tide when we launched at Kawakawa Bay and my son was holding the boat in the shallow water while I parked the car. Got back to the boat and it had quite a bit of water in it. I assumed it must have tak...

Re: Boating Question
Thanks guys, I'll have a chat to the outboard dealer and boat manufacturer and see where I get to.
For the time being, the boat is parked and honestly, I'm not too fussed. This time of year is too hot for me out there anyway.

Re: Boating Question
Thanks Lespresso, Somehow my own reply to this post got lost. I did figure out that the boat has a long shaft transom and the motor is way too high. I went back to check the emails where I ordered the boat, but there's no mention of transom height, so it's actually my own fault and not the manufactu...

Boating Question
Ok, well you guys are the only bunch of fishermen I know, so here goes a completely non-kayaking question: My new boat won't plane... most of the time. Soon as it gets to that speed and it kinda hits a plane, it loses all forward thrust and sounds like the motor is running outside of water (revs go ...
New boat
Yes, really a boat, not a kayak - even though it's a little bit shorter than my last kayak. Finally after 7 weeks wait and a horrible experience with this boat manufacturer, I finally got my boat today. 2018-12-13 15.03.36.jpg Smartwave 3500, made from same plastic as kayaks. Anyway, while driving h...

Re: Newby in Wanganui with some Newby questions
I have these really cheap cycling pants off ebay or AliExpress that I wear under shorts in summer. Not gonna help you find a wife while fishing, but perfect for sun protection. And they were cheap enough that I didn't care cutting a hole in the front (covered by the shorts of course) to do my busine...

Re: Tips and ideas to Keep It Simple please.
Single best thing I ever did in fishing. Everything else you may try to simplify pales in comparison!! Go softbait, it's just better.AndrewRawlingson wrote: ↑Mon Dec 03, 2018 6:35 pm If you really want to make life simple, ditch bait fishing altogether, it's just not necessary, but each to their own.

Yeah, I'm happy with that. Seriously looking forward to the boat and picking up a new Mercury 30hp tomorrow. New way of fishing for me to look forward to.
