South Westland.

To be honest, I haven’t made use of the fantastic weather we’ve had down here on the coast. But, with the anniversary weekend looming I hatched s plan to head deeper south and scored a tasty bin of fish out of “lake Tasman”.

Re: Cable Bay of recent

Any reports of tuna up there yet?
Super early I know but with the weather the way it’s been and the water temp higher than normal they must be lurking around. Surely?

Re: What's the fishing like up there

Cheers Pete.

Had two paddles round Cable so far. Monday late arvo and this morning when the wind came up. Bunch of small blue cod, but took one home this morning.

What's the fishing like up there

Got a week off next week, so I'm off on a road trip.
How has the fishing been of late? Thinking I'll be paddling around either Cable or Abel.
Probably both.
Cheers.

Been out a few times on this coast now, looking for tuna but haven't hit any yet. Red cod and sharks mainly, need to change things up as most the guys seem to t...

Re: West Coast

OK. This wasn't west coast Taranaki. It was west coast Greymouth area. I checked them out online on the day and Maui are a sub species of Hectors which are endangered, but common to South Island, if that can be said. If this was Taranaki they would have been reported. West Coast

Went out last weekend.
Had fun with the locals at least. Will have to revert to the stinky stuff me thinks to fill the bin.

Nelson events

Being the more active mainland kayak fraternity, is there a calender of events over the summer autumn months?
Tuna are close by, anyone venture off into the wild blue yonder in search?
The west coast windows are a bit smaller and I don't seem to be getting my fix down here...

Re: SI West Coast….

Well. Been here a few weeks now. First day was absoulety ridiculously perfect. I will admit that since then it has not been the best conditions for a first time yak mission. However, that is not to say that this is a place that cant be fished. I am blown away by the amount of rock structure this is ...

Re: SI West Coast….

[quote="Mac50L"]The West Coast is just too rugged and far too dangerous to go out paddling there. No sheltered bays or harbours. The only people who'd go paddling there are people like Paul Caffyn of round NZ and Australia fame. Paul lives just north of Greymouth. Good thing I'm there for a few year...

Re: Coastguard pulls my wet cold ass out of the water

I had a spilt in the bottom of one of my rod holders, which resulted in the yak filling with water. Rough conditions meant that each bit of chop over the side filled the holder which emptied into the Reload. After a couple of the hrs out there (with no fish) I turned for home and had a wave break ov...

Re: SI West Coast….

I have received from a very reliable source of a spot that would produce kayak boatable Bluefin, YakDr… I here ya Hainsey, on the rugged, remoteness of the place. I'm not expecting it to be much different than the Naki in terms of weather… always have to pick your wearer window, but sometimes I ...
