Re: Paddles

I like the idea of making my own paddle. Below 800g is impressive, assumed they would be heavy!

Sounds like a project

Paddles

Be interested to know what paddles people use. I’ve got a cheap aluminium one and does the job but pretty heavy.

Is there a benefit in fibreglass or carbon for kayak fishing or are they overkill?

Re: Lure storage

Went with a couple of Sistema clip boxes (bakery ones which as low profile) and got lures in ziplock bags. Put all slow jigs in one, jigheads in other, and micro jigs in third. Few packs of soft baits, leader, secret sauce and sorted. Got rid of all the crap I don't need as well! Tacklepod is lookin...

Lure storage

What do people use to store lures on kayak. Got gifted a large flambeau box which is a bit full (when first started went a bit crazy buying lures, got it out of system now!) had visions on Saturday rolling around in the wake of a boat flying of it disappearing overboard with all my lures. thought I ...

Re: NN 5/09

I thought it was on the cold side. Don’t know how accurate my Garmin ff is but bites were hard to come by. There were also tons of Boaties. Was heading towards rough rock at one one point but had to paddle in a bit as people were cutting the corner at high speeds. First time I’ve felt a bit like a s...

Re: Best Slow Jig Rod

Just got ocean angler jitterbug rod. Seems great action and only 149 bucks at the moment at marine deals.

Unfortunately no fish to test it this morning

NN 5/09

Quick fish out of narrowneck this morning and found it hard going. Few fish on motor oil softbait but just too small to keep. Slider didn’t get a single knock. Lost a gurnard at the boat which was annoying as would have been my first! Spoke to few others, one guy has some decent pannies on pillie ch...

Re: Sullivans 7/3

Just tried that 5 turn surgeons knot ( haven’t been out since end of July with work and lock down). Super easy so thanks for the tip. Much slimmer than a back to back uni and gave it some grunt and didn’t slip. Out on Saturday so hopefully gets a proper test. Thanks for head up. Easier than the fg t...

Ocean Angler Jitterbug rod

See these are a decent price on marine deals at the moment and want to ditch my shimnao kaos rod as to rigid and get something with alot more flex. Anyone used one of these for slow jigs, sliders e.t.c? https://www.marine-deals.co.nz/ocean-angler-rods/ocean-angler-jitterbug-overhead-slow-jig-rod-6ft...

Re: Slow jigging rod and reel

I got a 2nd hand Shimano Kaos slow jig rod and wouldn't recommend it. Way to rigid.

I was recommended the ocean angler bender rod. seems really good

Yeah, my attempt at a back to back uni let me down. Usually not bad with knots.

Need some practice

Sullivans 7/3

New grounds this morning, armed with the advice off this forum arrived at sullivans just as the sun was rising. Its a spectacular spot! A bit different to narrowneck! Tide had just turned so paddled out the the hole in front of the beach and drifted right across the bay past pudding island along the...

Re: Sulivans Bay for a newbie

Thanks both. Was planning on a trip out on friday somewhere as got day off and was thinking of Sullivan's. I just joined the facebook page of the north shore club the other week. I'm in onehunga but all my fishing seems to be north of the bridge. Cant make Saturday which is a real shame as Martin's ...
