Re: winter kayak fishing

Thanks, it is all helpful. One thing I have to work with is the fact that I always end up sitting in water, dunno if it is just my weight at 105kg, but water always comes in scupper holes or laps over side with swell etc, so want stuff that will keep me warm when wet. I'll check it all out and find...

Re: winter kayak fishing

Thanks everyone for the advice. Will have a look through it all. The reason I thought wet suit was I don't mind getting wet as long as I am warm. The Aropec gear looks really nice, might have to get some of them. I have some diving booties which I wore during summer as I don't like the idea of somet...

winter kayak fishing

Hey all, So I started kayak fishing during summer just gone. I am planning on going out for a fish soon but thought it would be handy to get some tips on winter fishing. In the summer I just wore shorts singlet and hat, I'm in Auckland fishing off the East Coast. However, I'm concerned about the col...

Fish finder how to

Hey guys,

I'm using a simple hummingbird grey scale FF. However I am new to FF and don't know if I am actually using it appropriately.

Would anyone be willing to give a run down for a rookie or share a good guide? Most of the guides I found didn't help me.

Cheers

Mission Bay (Kawau Bay)

I am just about to go on holiday for 10 days and was looking for some recommendations I'd placed to smash into with the yak.

Will be launching from Campbell Beach in mission bay

I'm in Papakura. There is a tackle shop in Botany called "Big Fish Bait and Tackle", or Manukau "Boat Marine" are your closest options. Both are good.

Cheers for advice. I started lighter and it felt like it was taking forever to get to the bottom so I switched lol. Too used to heavy surf caster sinkers.

Advice wanted small people

Hey guys. I'm looking at getting a kayak that my wife and kids can use along side me. My youngest is 10, wife is small 50kg and short.
I was thinking something around 2.6m?

Re: 26/1 Orere

Honestly don't think I have ever had that much fun fishing. Soft bait fishing was so rewarding, feels like something for a fish as opposed to just dropping some bait

26/1 Orere

Well, I finally went out for my very first Kayaking trip. Absolutely no idea what I was doing, never used soft-bait before, had no idea what I was doing, much fun was had! Got out in the water from the Kawakawa bay side at about 6am, spent about an hour acting like a muppet trying to figure out how ...

WTB Chill pod or bag

I have a 4.1 ultra prowler and am looking for something for fish storage. I am going to use my chillibin in the mean time but it is less than ideal.

Re: Ali Express for fishing gear

I've bought a bit of fishing gear from aliexpress. Got some rods as cheap throw away gear while I'm re-learning. The rods are very well made and Fuji guides and reel seats. Very impressed, and they cost bugger all delivered. Have also bought reels, snap swivels, hooks, line, etc which are also very...

Re: Ali Express for fishing gear

As long as you accept that the cheap gear is basically "throw away". If it doesn't meet your expectations, you will be stuck with throwing it away, because sending it back will cost you more than the sale price. Same with parts. In my experience, I find that buying good gear locally from a reputabl...
